The Oxford Roofclimbers' Rebellion, in NYC

Dylan Chalfy as Lawrence, Stafford Clark-Price as Robert Graves

Darlings! It seems that dearest potatofiend and I are not quite alone in our desperate devotion to Lawrence/Graves!

For lo! A play! Off-Broadway!

[From the study guide]
"The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion by Stephen Massicotte is a fictionalized tale of a true event – the meeting of poet Robert Graves and T.E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia, at Oxford University after the First World War. Lawrence has recently been cast out of the Paris Peace talks of 1919, and Graves has barely survived the trenches of the Somme.

"Haunted by the senseless slaughter they witnessed and disillusioned with the political deceit they experienced, both men contemplate the war and its aftermath. Graves is haunted by his experiences of trench warfare while his young wife is focused on a renewed England. Lawrence can’t bear to see his beloved Arabia falling into the morass of civil war while Britain breaks its promises to its former Arab allies. What can a pair of rebels do, except take to the rooftops of Oxford.

"Balanced on the tipping point between darkness and light, The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion depicts the aftermath of a monstrous war as seen through the eyes of two men grasping at love, haunted by history, and seeking solace in their power to imagine a new world. It is a timely exploration of the consequences of war."

At Urban Stages Theater, 13 October through 18 November. Alas, not long!

Need I mention the aesthetic appeal of those two young men up there, and the "grasping at love"? ;-) Does that inspire a plot bunny, anyone? Anyone?

Maybe someone will make a movie of it someday?

Or, yanno, to work off that geographic frustration y'all could just write me tons of L/G fic... ;-)

I'll be seeing it in November, and I'll write a full report. God, I hope it's good!

It is! I realized this morning that I should have said that. I'm looking for it now, and will post it when I find it!
